Record-breaking sales figures from October 2024 continue to reveal Canadian driving preferences....
The 2020 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid is the best-selling Toyota in Canada, and it’s not surprising. The RAV4 strives to outperform the competition with hybrid efficiency, surprising performance, and advanced technologies throughout each model. The RAV4 Hybrid offers four trims for 2020, including the LE AWD, XLE AWD, XSE AWD and Limited AWD.
There are several compact SUVs in the segment that compete with the RAV4 Hybrid, and several prospective customers have asked us how it compares to the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, a far less advanced hybrid. Here, we compare both.
The 2020 RAV4 Hybrid raises the performance level
First, the RAV4 Hybrid is 232 kg lighter than the Outlander PHEV. And including the Outlander’s more substantial length and height, this may create a boxier and less nimble feel. The RAV4 Hybrid is tuned to handle its class-leading acceleration.
The RAV4 Hybrid creates more horsepower than the Outlander PHEV. With a total horsepower of 219, it is among the quickest hybrids in its class. The Outlander’s net horsepower, with its 117-horsepower gasoline engine and electric motors, adds up to a far-behind 190 net horsepower. Toyota’s proven Synergy Drive brings out the best performance between the RAV4’s gasoline and electric motors.
The RAV4 can also haul heavier toys, with a towing capacity of 793 Kg, it outshines the Outlander PHEV’s 680 Kg.
The 2020 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid is versatile with more passenger room
The RAV4 Hybrid opens up capacity for your lifestyle while offering more room for each occupant. Behind the front seats, the RAV4 Hybrid has 1,977 litres of cargo volume in a rear seat-down configuration. This adds up to nearly 200 litres more volume than the Outlander PHEV.
When rear seats are engaged, the RAV4 Hybrid still has 1,059 litres of remaining capacity behind them. This also remains at nearly 200 litres more than the Outlander PHEV in the same configuration. When it’s time to move, haul cargo for your family or friends, and more, the RAV4 offers more possibilities.
If you sit in both the RAV4 Hybrid and Outlander PHEV, you will notice the RAV4 is not only better equipped, but has more room for occupants in key areas. These include front leg room and shoulder room and rear head room and shoulder room.
