A New Chapter: The 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser Returns to Roots

The Toyota Land Cruiser, a beacon of off-road adventuring, makes a grand return to the Canadian market after 28 years, holding steadfast to its heritage as a resilient all-terrain warrior. North American-based CALTY Design Research has collaborated with the global development team to shape the new model's appearance, taking inspiration from its predecessors. The design team committed to authenticity, reliability, timeless aesthetics, and professionalism, resulting in a vehicle that masterfully balances form and function.

The 2024 Land Cruiser borrows the iconic round LED headlights from the 1958 grade, and the classic "TOYOTA" heritage grille. A square body profile, a trademark of early Land Cruisers, remains intact, alongside strategic changes like a pushed-back A-pillar for better outward visibility on the trails and a decreased front overhang for improved approach. A combination of the double-wishbone front suspension with twin-tube shocks, and a multi-link rear suspension with coil springs, give the new Land Cruiser its agile handling.

The Power Within: Powertrains

Under the hood, the Land Cruiser is powered by an i-FORCE MAX hybrid powertrain. This standard system across all grades brings together a turbocharged 2.4-litre four-cylinder engine with a 48-hp electric motor. The energy source for the motor, a 1.87-kWh NiMH battery pack, is neatly integrated into an eight-speed transmission, generating a total system output of 326 horsepower and 465 lb.-ft. of torque. The vehicle's fuel economy estimates are anticipated to be announced closer to the Land Cruiser's sale date.

The Land Cruiser also features a full-time four-wheel-drive system with a center locking differential, and an electronically controlled two-speed transfer case with high/low range. An electronic locking rear differential, standard across all Land Cruisers, supports improved traction control on rugged terrains.

A Worthy Successor: Off-Roading

The latest Land Cruiser continues its legacy as an off-road titan. The vehicle is designed with a new front stabilizer bar disconnect that is standard on the Land Cruiser and First Edition grades. The bar increases flexibility at the touch of a button. The Land Cruiser boasts an approach angle of up to 31.0 degrees and a max departure of 22.0 degrees. The breakover angle reaches up to 25.0 degrees, and ground clearance stands at a formidable 221 millimetres (8.7 inches).

Customers can fortify their Land Cruisers with rock rails and full-coverage high-strength steel skid plates. For off-road recovery, front tow/recovery hooks come as standard equipment. The Land Cruiser's Multi-Terrain Monitor, which displays potential obstacles on the trail, offers an unprecedented visual experience on the available 12.3-inch touchscreen.

In conclusion, the new 2024 Land Cruiser is more than just a faithful recreation of its former self. It's an emblem of Toyota's longstanding values of quality, dependability, and reliability, interweaving modern technology and classic design cues to create a remarkable off-road machine. Set to arrive in Canada in the spring of 2024, the new Land Cruiser is a testament to Toyota's innovative spirit and an exciting chapter in the iconic vehicle's history.
