Announced earlier in December, the 2023 Toyota Highlander Grand is coming in early next year and although Toyota hasn't provided many details on this new model, there are a few things that we can assume. We think the new Toyota Highlander Grand will be a larger version of the current Highlander with an extended wheelbase which will translate into more cargo capacity and more interior passenger space, specifically for the second and third rows.
The current Toyota SUV lineup is packed with models, but if you're looking at the three-row SUVs, there is a gap between the current Toyota Highlander and the recently redesigned Toyota Sequoia. We believe the Toyota Highlander Grand will fill that gap. Expect the overall size to be in between the current Highlander and Sequoia with the interior space also finding the middleground between the midsize SUV and Toyota's full-size offering. A longer wheelbase will mean more passenger space, specifically at the second and third rows while we also expect cargo capacity to increase. The current Toyota Highlander offers between 453 L and 2,387 L of cargo space. That will likely increase by 10 to 20% on the new Highlander Grand.
What isn't expected to change is the powertrain options offered on the Highlander Grand. Expect to see the same brand-new 2.4-litre that delivers 265 hp and 310 pound-feet of torque. This engine was introduced on the 2023 Highlander and provides more power than the outgoing V6 without sacrificing fuel economy.
And speaking of fuel economy, we do expect the new Highlander Grand to offer a hybrid powertrain as well. This engine will likely produce 243 hp and average under 7 L per 100 km.
The new 2023 Toyota Highlander Grand will be for buyers who are looking for more space than what the current Highlander offers, but that also want the comfort and refinement of Toyota's midsize SUV. We will keep you posted on all of the developments of this latest Toyota SUV, so stay tuned.
