The 2021 Toyota Highlander and the 2021 Hyundai Santa Fe aren’t exactly the same type of vehicle. That said, both are midsize SUVs with the most significant difference being that the 2021 Toyota Highlander has an extra row of seats. That said, the Highlander also has quite a bit more power as well as more cargo space, and it certainly delivers better resale value. Let’s take a look at these areas where the 2021 Toyota Highlander really shines over the Hyundai Santa.
More cargo space
You might be thinking that the 2021 Toyota Highlander has less cargo space than the 2021 Hyundai Santa Fe, but it’s actually the opposite. The Highlander offers a total of over 2,300 litres of cargo space while the Santa Fe has just 2,042 litres. Behind the second row, the Santa Fe has just 1,031 litres while the Highlander has 1,371 litres of cargo space. That means that regardless of how you have the second row placed, you enjoy roughly 300 litres of cargo space more in the Highlander.
Moreover, the Highlander features a third row that, even when in place, has 453 litres of cargo space behind it. That means that you can transport six or seven passengers without compromising cargo capacity too much.
More performance
The 2021 Hyundai Santa Fe gets a four-cylinder engine with 191 horsepower and 181 pound-feet of torque standard. The 2021 Toyota Highlander features a 3.5-litre V6 engine that certainly offers more performance and better accelerations. After all, it offers 295 horsepower standard, which means over 100 horsepower more than the Santa Fe.
That said, just because the Santa Fe has less power doesn’t mean it’s that much more fuel-efficient. Indeed, there is a difference of just 1.0 litre per 100 kilometres on average between the Santa Fe and Highlander’s fuel economy ratings.
Much better resale value
Last but certainly not least, the 2021 Toyota Highlander has much better resale value than the Hyundai Santa Fe. As a matter of fact, if you lease your Highlander over 5 years, don’t be surprised if it’s worth what you owe in just a few years. That’s something we rarely find in other models.
