The all-new Corolla rolls out in 2020 with new engineering and an exciting hybrid model. With decades of global popularity, the Corolla is poised for the future with better efficiency, reliability, technology and more. However, the Corolla is also successful because it strives to offer more than other sedans in its class. Here, we offer a head-to-head comparison with the Honda Civic to help you make an informed purchasing decision.
The Corolla’s 4,630 mm length is slightly longer than the Civic, and it is features new exterior equipment like LED Daytime Running Lights, Automatic Headlamp System and Bi-Beam LED Headlamps that are not available on most Civic trims.
The 2020 Toyota Corolla offers more engine versatility and efficiency
The Corolla offers three engines that win. The L, LE, and XLE receive the new 1.8L Valvematic four-cylinder engine that boosts horsepower to 139. The L and LE trims, with a continuously variable transmission, achieve a fuel consumption rating of 7.9/6.1 L/100 km (City/Highway).
The Corolla’s 2.0L four-cylinder Dynamic Force Engine (DFE) extends horsepower to 169, exceeding the Civic’s primary engine by 10 horsepower. The DFE uses intelligent valve timing to increase power and efficiency. The CVT-equipped Corolla SE and XSE achieve a rating of or close to 7.6/5.8 L/100 km (city/highway), which also beats the Civic 2.0L’s efficiency of 7.9/6.1 L/100 km. Although the Civic’s 1.5L turbocharged four-cylinder edges out the DFE’s horsepower, its fuel consumption rates as high as 8.9/6.4 L/100 km. That is a big sacrifice for a little more power.
The 2020 Toyota Corolla takes the biggest prize of all
However, the Corolla saves the best for last. The Corolla offers a hybrid - something the Civic doesn’t have. This model is one of the most efficient compact sedans on the road, and it earns a rating of 4.4/4.5 L/100 km (city/highway), compared to the Civic’s best model at 7.9/6.1 L/100 km.
The Corolla wins with the most efficient and earth-friendly vehicle. Moreover, all trims come with Toyota’s advanced safety equipment suite: Toyota Safety Sense 2.0. It outfits the Corolla with Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist and Road Edge Detection, Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection and Bicycle Detection and High-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, systems that are not available on lower trims of the Civic.
The Toyota Corolla also includes more features to experience, and many exceed what the Civic offers. You can shop for your car online with us. Our representatives are waiting for your call or e-mail and can answer all your questions.
