Toyota had a record year for sales in 2021 when it comes to electrified vehicles, selling 55,886 hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles which represents an increase of 84.4% compared to 2020. Toyota sales climbed 16.8 per cent compared to 2020 with a total of 199,308 units sold.
Toyota once again established the benchmark when it comes to electrified vehicles, and 2022 should be just as impressive with the arrival of multiple new models including the first ever fully-electric Toyota vehicle, the bZ4X, and the introduction of the all-new Toyota Tundra Hybrid. These models will join the ever-popular Toyota RAV4 Hybrid and RAV4 Prime, Toyota Prius and Prius Prime, and the hybrid-only Toyota Sienna minivan and Toyota Venza SUV.
The Toyota Corolla Hybrid, with 4,522 units sold, was one of the most impressive Toyota hybrid performers last year. The compact hybrid sedan nearly doubled its sales, increasing volume by 82.9%. The Toyota Highlander Hybrid also did very well, seeing its sales increased by 35.1%.
The Toyota Highlander SUV with a traditional V6 engine sold 14,614 units, up nearly 50% compared to last year. Overall Toyota sales reached 225,215 units sold, an increase of 17.7% over 2020.
