Toyota vehicles are celebrated for their exceptional reliability and quality, but unexpected...
Toyota has announced the addition of the GR86 Hakone special edition for the 2025 model year. This limited-production variant pays homage to Japan's famous Hakone Turnpike and offers unique styling elements alongside performance upgrades.
Distinctive Styling
The Hakone special edition stands out with its Ridge Green exterior paint, complemented by 18-inch satin bronze-finished wheels and a colour-keyed duck-tail spoiler. Black accents and a Hakone badge further distinguish this model.
Inside, the car features Ultrasuede sport seats with tan leather trim and stitching. A special edition shift knob with bronze accents and a GR plaque enhance the interior's exclusivity.
Performance Enhancements
All 2025 GR86 models, including the Hakone edition, receive handling improvements. These include re-tuned shock absorbers for better response and revised throttle mapping for easier heel-toe downshifts. Engine torque control has been adjusted to provide more direct throttle response, while the electric power steering has been re-tuned for improved road feel.
The Hakone edition comes standard with SACHS dampers and Brembo brakes. The dampers are designed to absorb vibrations across a wide range of speeds, while the Brembo system features 4-piston front and 2-piston rear calipers for enhanced stopping power.
Powertrain and Specifications
The 2025 GR86 Hakone special edition is powered by a 2.4-litre, 4-cylinder boxer engine producing 228 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. In Canada, it will be available exclusively with a six-speed manual transmission. The car accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 6.1 seconds.
Availability and Production
Toyota will produce 860 units of the Hakone special edition for the North American market, with 30 allocated to Canada. The 2025 GR86 lineup, including the Hakone edition, is expected to arrive at Canadian Toyota dealerships in Fall 2024. Pricing details will be announced later this year.
Safety and Technology
The GR86 comes equipped with Toyota's Active Safety Suite, which includes features such as Pre-Collision Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, and Lane Departure Warning. The car also offers connected services with a three-year trial subscription, including Safety Connect, Service Connect, and Remote Connect.
With its unique styling, performance upgrades, and limited availability, the 2025 Toyota GR86 Hakone special edition aims to offer enthusiasts a distinctive driving experience that honours its Japanese sports car heritage.
